US Visa

For anyone planning to travel to the US, there are various types of visas. However, broadly, these visas are classified under two broad headings – Temporary and Permanent. As the name suggests, the temporary visa is only for a limited time whereas the permanent visa is for a longer time, most often for the lifetime.

The various types of temporary USA visas include:

1.  Visitor Visas or B-1 or B-2 Tourist Visas

This visa is issued to all the visitors visiting USA for either a pleasure trip or business trip. A B-1 visa holder is allowed in USA for only a short duration and that too without the involvement of any local employment.

Of course an exception to this rule might be for nationals of some countries who are allowed to visit USA for up to ninety days without having a valid visa.

2. Investor Visas or E-1/E-2 Treaty

Investors and traders from countries with which USA has a commercial treaty can visit USA with this visa.

3. Student Visas (F-1 and M-1)

students who wish to pursue a full study course in USA, at times also including a certain period of practical training in the concerned field of study are allowed to enter USA on this type of visas.

4. Professional or H-1 B Specialty Occupation Visas

The professional workers with a minimum educational qualification of Graduation are eligible for this type of non-immigrant visa in case the employer can make sure that the professional would be paid the prevailing wages for the position in USA.

5. L-1 Intracompany Transfer Visas

This type of visa is provided to the managers, executives, or professionals with specialized knowledge who are being transferred to the US affiliate of the company. Such people might also be eligible for permanent residency without the requirement of a labor certification.
